I saw it with Christmas trees. Some places were sold out before they even started, and other places had a huge surplus. I fell victim to the news reports of Christmas Tree Shortages and ended up spending twice what I would normally spend on a tree, because I got it from a place that has much higher prices and smaller trees, and if I hadn't been all freaked out, I would have done a little shopping around. :).Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04642417312794814066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2520882348802072893.post-28013192246360533402021-11-13T14:01:08.969-08:002021-11-13T14:01:08.969-08:00Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly, but I a...Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly, but I am thinking "They" forecast shortages of stuffing last year as well. Hmm..... is it posssssible that grocers are getting into this idea of creating the scarcity mindset that toy companies have been breeding in Americans (and probably others as well) - GET THE HOT NEW TOY WHILE YOU CAN OR IT'S GONNA BE GONNNNNE. And we (societal we) all scurry like rats to fight over the Elmo or the stuffing or the XYZ that the media and marketers tell us we have to have or we are going to be sad (or our children will be sad and we are, thusly, proven to be awful parents).

Or maybe I'm just in a mood. LOL

We'll have turkey breast, which I already had one of. We did pick up some extras because the guys enjoy using the smoker (last year's Christmas gift for Manly); we usually keep a few on hand for bulk cooking. It wasn't the be-all, end-all though; if we hadn't had gotten extras last week, we'd have had that one and called it good. If that hadn't been in the freezer, we'd have had one of the chickens in the freezer, or maybe a big dish of lasagna (the beef & sausage for which, and the chickens, from Polyface so semi-local). Yum. :DMelonie Kennedyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14997223431470903554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2520882348802072893.post-84396294266749759502021-11-12T15:50:14.764-08:002021-11-12T15:50:14.764-08:00I totally hear what you're saying! What really...I totally hear what you're saying! What really cracks me up is the oh my God you can't buy your kids plastic toys this Christmas! That's just sad. I bought both of my grandsons who are 4 and 5 some art supplies and books. Will keep them busy during the winter. Yes I agree there a lot of people that just simply don't know how to cook at all from scratch. Lately I've been having no problem at all finding wheat berries and various flowers to stash. I also stocked up quite a bit on yeast baking soda and baking powder. Lots of spices to for all those beans I bought. I bought a turkey a few months ago so we will be cover there, pretty funny about the boxed stuffing mix yes. Just chunk up some of your own bread and dry it. I have fresh Sage that I planted years ago in front of our house for the turkey, etc. I have lots of Frozen eggs if I need to make a pie but will probably also make a homemade apple pie! I froze and can some of our lovely apples this summer. We will definitely have a feast. My husband and my anniversary is coming up and I bought him a really nice book that he will love. Life is good! And I'm realizing I can winter over my kale and collard greens so far. So I may pick some of those for Thanksgiving meal as well! It was pretty funny last spring that I couldn't find hardly any potatoes in the city. When covid hit I guess people had to mash a lot of taters!Nancy In Boisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03749272217529362089noreply@blogger.com
